Party’s Mahila unit chief Sushmita Dev expresses disappointment over selection
Assam Congress chief Ripun Bora, a former BJP MP Ram Prasad Sarma and son of former union minister Pawan Singh Ghatowar were among the first list of 40 Congress candidates released by the party late on Saturday.
While Mr. Bora, a sitting Rajya Sabha member, will be contesting from the Gohpur constituency, Mr Sarma, who had joined the Congress after representing the Tezpur Lok Sabha seat on a BJP ticket, is the party candidate from Barchalla.

New Jan 25 : The Congress has formed a number of committees for the upcoming assembly polls in Assam. The committees formed by the party include the election committee, manifesto committee, management committee, coordination committee, campaign committee and media committee. Sonia Gandhi has appointed state president Ripun Bora as Chairman of state election committee and the coordination committee along with 23 other members while the campaign committee will be headed by Pradyut Bordoloi which has 49 other members.
Former Assam Minister Rokibul Hussain has been appointed Chairman of the publicity committee while Gaurav Gogoi will be heading the manifesto committee. Former MP Ram Prasad Sarma will head the election management committee and Abdul Khaleque will be in-charge of Media.

New Delhi, Jan 25: The Congress on Monday formed eight panels for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections with state unit chief Ripun Bora named as the head of the Pradesh Election Committee .
Congress president Sonia Gandhi has approved the proposal of the constitution of the state election committee, election management committee, manifesto committee, coordination committee, campaign committee, publicity committee, media and communication committee and outreach committee, a statement issued by the party said.
While Bora has been appointed chairman of the state election committee, MP Gaurav Gogoi has been named the head of the manifesto committee, according to the statement.
