FORT SMITH, Mont. - Even with lower than usual water levels, Bighorn Canyon is ready for the 4th of July weekend. As of June 29, the lake level is 3627.93 and there is minimal driftwood, according to a release. However, boaters should use caution, even around small amounts of driftwood. After water samples from the Ok-A-Beh Marina tested positive for E. coli that exceeds local, state and National Park Service standards for recreational activity, the area has been closed to swimmers. Park staff will be sampling the area daily and will open the swim beach when it is safe to do so. ....

A fire in the Pryor Mountains reported at around 7 p.m. on Tuesday was estimated Wednesday afternoon to be 5,000 acres in size. Named the Crooked Creek Fire, the blaze is burning near Big Ice Cave on Big Pryor Mountain, south of the town Pryor and just north of the Wyoming state line. The fire is along the Carbon and Big Horn county border on National Forest lands. Wednesday morning the fire had been reported to be 500 acres in size. Al Nash, chief of communications for the Montana Dakotas State Office of the Bureau of Land Management, attributed much of the increased size to a better estimate. ....

This column is my annual “Wyoming Bucket List” of those places that I have always wanted to visit. Some of them were featured in my three- volume trilogy of coffee table books about Wyoming but many were not. Either way, I am eager to go see them. Now readers need to know that Wyoming is full of many of the most scenic places in the world, such as Yellowstone National Park, Teton National Park, Devils Tower National Monument, the Medicine Wheel, the Oregon Trail, the Red Desert, and the Wind River Indian Reservation. ....
