Nottinghamshire Police issue warning as elderly man loses £80,000 in a Bitcoin scam

A man in his 80s has lost more than £80,000 after investing in a Bitcoin scheme.
The online company managed to access the victim s computer remotely and accessed his internet banking to transfer the money to a separate account.
The victim had signed up to the scheme via a Bitcoin website having done research online and initially invested just £400, but by the end of the conversations had lost his life savings.
Police are warning about a bitcoin warning. (45843259)
Detective Constable Jason Jenkins from Nottinghamshire Police s economic crime and cyber unit, is leading the investigation.
He said: This is a really sad incident which has seen a vulnerable and elderly man who lives alone losing a large amount of money after being scammed. ....

Confirmed coronavirus cases in Newark and Sherwood reaches 7,209 today (Monday, April 5)

Six new coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Newark and Sherwood, according to the latest figures from Public Health England.
It takes the total number of cases in the district since the start of the pandemic to 7,209.
In Nottinghamshire, excluding the city, another 53 cases have been recorded, taking the total to 54,388.

In Ashfield there have been 9,561 (up six) Bassetlaw 8,034 (up six) Broxtowe 7,098 (up six) Gedling 8,106 (up 13) Mansfield 8,052 (up 12) Rushcliffe 6,822 (up four) and Nottingham 30,388 (up 13).
In the last seven days there have been 100 positive cases recorded in Newark and Sherwood. This represents a decrease in the last seven days. ....

Police are warning residents to be vigilant and guard against opportunist burglars taking advantage of the recent lockdown easing as people venture out over the Easter school holidays.
Nottinghamshire Police has two burglary teams and their work ­— combined with the impact of more people staying at home in line with covid regulations ­— has helped drive offences down by 35% in the last year.
The force is keen to ensure burglary stays on a downward trend by reminding residents to check their security and make it as difficult as possible for burglars by taking a few simple precautions. ....
