It took a Namibian safari or an Arctic adventure to really quicken my pulse. No longer! This week I had a picnic on my local stretch of sand in Kent, and I was practically vibrating with anticipation all weekend. My new lockdown-acclimatised standards are infinitely preferable, of course; I never want to go back to being the sort of numb and jaded traveller who can’t fully appreciate what I have on my doorstep. ....

Thereâs something therapeutic about eating Sri Lankan cuisine, listening to the sound of the waves, seeing the sun go down and watching the impressive swimmers. Curry evenings are determined by the weather and announced on Instagram: @barricanecafe. Bring towels or folding chairs to sit on. Cafe 10am-5pm, curries 5pm-7pm, although curries can sell out. ....
