Larned man pleads guilty to shooting two people in December in Burdett

LARNED – A Larned man charged in connection with the shooting of two people in Burdett last December entered a plea in the case on Wednesday. Under a plea agreement, Thomas R. “Tre” Jones, III, 22, pleaded guilty to two counts of intentional aggravated battery with a firearm resulting in great bodily harm, according to a release from Pawnee County Attorney Douglas McNett. As part of the deal, the state dismissed seven other counts. McNett advised Pawnee County District Judge Gatterman that evidence would show that during the earlier morning hours of Dec. 11, 2020, Jones, Tristian Scott, 18, and two juveniles traveled to Burdett intending to rob an individual the group perceived had wronged them.

Rig goes off K-156 in Pawnee County An Abilene man was taken to Pawnee Valley Community Hospital with possible injuries last Monday, April 12, after the truck he was driving crashed on K-156, 3.1 miles east of 275th in Pawnee County. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Zachary Humphreys, 36, was driving a 1997 Kenworth three-axel tractor pulling a Wilson trailer. There was another truck tractor-trailer in front of him that was slowing down for the railroad tracks. Humphreys was unprepared to stop, slammed on the brakes and went into the north ditch. He was taken to the hospital after complaining of pain. He was not wearing a safety restraint.
