Henry County student among winners of Metro Water District essay contest

Strong Rock Middle School student Brody Spann was among the winners for his essay Water Machinist. Students were asked to write a 300-500 word essay focusing on how safe water is more important than ever during a pandemic; or, research and write about an essential job of a water professional. Of the 650 entries received, one winner per county was chosen. Each winner received a $100 check and an award certificate from the Metro Water District. As Henry County s winner, Spann received an additional gift card and swag from the Henry County Water Authority. “Hats off to this year’s essay contest participants,” said Glenn Page, Metro Water District chairman. “Their work demonstrates an understanding that safe, clean water is absolutely essential for the public health and safety of us all, and that it’s the critical work of water professionals region-wide that ensures our continued access to this vital resource.”

The Fayette Master Gardener Association resumes its annual Plant Sale and Garden Tour

Plants cared for by master gardener association members and friends are for sale at competitive prices. The Garden Tour is the next day, Sunday, April 25, 2021, from noon until 6 PM. Five quite different gardens in Fayette County will be open to the public. Tickets are $15.00 per person or $20.00 the day of the Tour. The garden at Flat Rock Middle School, sponsored by FMGA, will be open the same day from noon to 2 PM.

Covid cases in Fayette schools fall sharply

The Citizen your username your email Password recovery After a mini-surge in Covid-19 cases the week before, Fayette County schools saw an equally rapid drop in new cases and quarantines last week, with 17 schools reporting no new cases. From 25 new cases the week before, the new cases total dropped to 9 for the week from March 27 through April 2, according to figures compiled by the school system. Likewise, quarantine numbers fell from 175 the previous week to 65 for last week. The report shows 3 school staff members and 6 students tested positive for the coronavirus infection last week. Whitewater High School had 1 teacher and 1 student test positive last week, the only school to have both a staff member and student infected. Both Sandy Creek High and McIntosh High recorded 1 student infection each. Flat Rock Middle School had 2 students test positive.
