Low Parana river level 'trims' Argentine farm exports

BUENOS AIRES (Reuters) - Argentina’s Parana River, the grains superhighway that takes soy and corn from the Pampas farm belt to the world, has gotten so shallow that it has started “trimming” international shipments just as the country’s export season gets underway.

If rain doesn’t arrive by the weekend, crops will come under pressure, says Con.
While some moisture was forecast at the time of writing this, it remains to be seen if it will be enough to alleviate the dry conditions in north Kerry.
With that said, conditions have been excellent for getting work done this spring, says Con, and land is in great shape.
Con will finish planting the last of his maize this week.
He will finish planting his 72ac of maize this week. Spring cereal sowing was completed over two weeks ago.
His Gangway spring barley crops were sown at a rate of 180kg/ha, along with 336kg/ha of 10:10:20. ....

Grain price hike provides forward selling opportunity


The current price spike is providing opportunities for some forward selling.
Just as the Central Statistics Office (CSO) confirmed Ireland’s 2020 grain production to be down 16% on the previous year, international grain prices have kicked on once again.
That is not to suggest that the two are cause and effect, but lower than expected global production last year, combined with higher demand, has left lower stock levels to buffer any weather-related production difficulties this year.
Area, weather and stocks have again become a concern in recent weeks as the combination of cold and dryness affect planting and crop potential.
