ITHACA, NY Even though school is out, fun activities and learning opportunities for kids abound during the summer months in Ithaca. The Sciencenter, the Museum of the Earth, and the Cayuga Nature Center are among some of the local institutions that offer both educational and interactive programming during the summer to children. Although some COVID-induced modifications still linger, with summer in full swing and easing pandemic restrictions, these centers have seen both increased visitation and enthusiasm in the past few weeks. While the Sciencenterâs doors have been open to the public for almost the entirety of the pandemic, summer 2021 operations and crowds look much different than the previous months. With the exception of a mask requirement and a few exhibits that remain closed, the Sciencenter is operating normally for summer 2021. ....

Hunt Library in Falls Village will open BOOK MARKS, its first large group art exhibition in over a year with an outdoor reception on July 24. The exhibition features an outdoor installation by Zoe and Sergei Fedorjaczenko, imagining books as the fruit of trees, and an indoor display of artwork by 22 artists including Barbara Page, Robert Cronin, Amanda Thackray, Robert Andrew Parker, Tilly Strauss, and Danielle Mailer. There is also an original work by the late Eric Carle, the the children’s book illustrator, on loan from a private collection. ....
âBook Marksâ is a visual journey through a lifetime of reading and remembering, an alluring blend of art book and autobiography that will capture the imagination. At its heart are 434 intricate collages and drawings created on three by five-inch repurposed library checkout cards, each one representing a book that left an indelible mark on artist Barbara Page, who will appear at a Zoom event with the Ulysses Philomathic Library in Trumansburg April 28 at 7 p.m. Barbara Page is an artist, triathlete, and avid reader. Her work includes large museum installations, including the expansive Rock of Ages, Sands of Time at the Museum of the Earth in Ithaca, New York, and the 140-foot-long pedestrian bridge and mural at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh. ....
