A Barnwell County sheriff’s deputy has a new lease on life after a massive heart attack.
Captain Darlene Cook, 55, has dedicated the past 28 years to protecting and serving the community as a law enforcement officer, including the past 23 years at the Barnwell County Sheriff’s Office. On Feb. 12 she had a 100 percent blockage in one artery and 99.9 percent blockage in the other. After spending several days in the hospital, she is now recovering at home.
“I’m so overwhelmed by the outpouring of prayers, love and concern from across the community. I’m humbled and more appreciative than words can say,” said Cook, who is grateful to live in a small, caring community like Barnwell.

Bamberg, 57, recently took the oath as Bamberg County’s sheriff.
“We’re going to do what we’re supposed to do: accountability and responsibility. We’re going to enforce the law and be fair, firm and consistent. It doesn’t matter who you are, where you come from, who your family is, doesn’t matter,” Bamberg said moments after taking office.

AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. An arrest has been made in a deadly shooting at an Aiken County nightclub that left one dead 13 others injured in November.
Deputies say they Dustin Robert Williamson, 25, of Saint Matthews is charged with murder, 10 counts of attempted murder and 1 count of possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Williams was arrested on November 30 by the Barnwell County Sheriff’s Office, officials say.
The shooting happened around 1 a.m. on November 28 at the 7th Lounge in Aiken County. When deputies arrived, multiple people were injured and one unresponsive person will multiple gunshot wounds was found, according to officials.
