Parker Towing To Be Featured On Reality Show - The Waterways Journal

Tuscaloosa, Ala.-based Parker Towing Company will be featured on National Geographic’s new show “Breaking Bobby Bones” Sunday, June 20, at 10 p.m. Eastern (9 p.m. Central).
Each episode of the show features radio and TV personality Bobby Bones traveling to a different part of the United States to “find people with unique jobs, skills, hobbies and abilities,” according to the network. In attempting to learn their trades, Bones explores “the triumphs and tragedies that made these heroes who they are today,” according to National Geographic.
For the episode featuring Parker Towing, Bones will join a towboat crew, learning some of what it takes to move barges on the nation’s waterways and, in the process, getting to know the crew members. Parker Towing's Mv. Jared Phillips Goes To Work On BWT - The Waterways Journal

On a cold February evening frigid by New Orleans’ standards the mv. Jared Phillips, the newest vessel in Parker Towing Company’s fleet, motored through the Harvey Canal, down the Mississippi River past the city’s French Quarter, and through the Inner Harbor Navigation Canal, bound for the Intracoastal Waterway. The 4,200 hp. towboat, built at FMT Shipyard on the Harvey Canal, made its way east to Mobile, Ala., then north to Parker Towing’s headquarters in Tuscaloosa, Ala., where it quickly entered service on the Black Warrior-Tombigbee Waterway (BWT).
The vessel is named for Parker Towing Company’s director of business operations, Jared Phillips, who has been with the company for 10 years. Phillips, a native of Huntsville, Ala., began attending the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa in 2002. While in college, he met the former Alison Parker Haun, daughter of Par ....
