As Lancaster County officials announced plans for a mass vaccination site Thursday, two county residents who recently voiced their frustrations of trying to get vaccine appointments to LNP | LancasterOnline said they felt that what the county announced was ânothing new.â âNothing that helps get vaccinations to those with existing conditions,â Bob Cooper, of Millersville, said in an email near the end of the news conference. âYet they talk about âmassive vaccinationsâ when, while they talk about such a possibility, Iâm on more than 10 waiting lists, some for over a week.â County commissioners Josh Parsons, Ray DâAgostino and Craig Lehman and Dr. Michael Ripchinski, chief clinical officer of Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health, did not give specifics on where or when the large vaccination site would be established, saying they are still in the final stages of planning. WellSpan Health launched an online sign-up portal for COVID-19 vaccines on Jan. 19, the same day Pennsylvania expanded the first phase of its vaccine rollout plan. Within 48 hours the health system had scheduled 45,000 appointments and shut down the portal. Barry Millhouse was able to schedule a February appointment for his 78-year-old mother at WellSpan York Hospital. She was diagnosed with lung cancer in the past year and is considered high-risk. Before reaching out to WellSpan, Millhouse contacted his motherâs doctors at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health, where she had been previously hospitalized. Their response left Millhouse frustrated and upset.
