Rower Jakar in line for Olympic quota place Thu, May 06 2021 08:02:06 PM Tokyo, May 6 (IANS): India s Jakar Khan has emerged as a strong contender for an Olympic quota place in the men s single scull after his preliminary round performance in the World Rowing Asia and Oceania Olympic and Paralympic Qualification Regatta on Thursday. Khan posted a time of 8 minutes 07.32 seconds to finish second in his heats. His performance was fourth fastest among the 14 competitors who are fighting for five quota places. The Indian rower has advanced to the semi-final stage of the competition. But he has to sustain his efforts on Friday as only three top athletes in each of the semi-finals will get a chance to enter the finals. ....
IAF officer to represent India in Paralympics Qualifiers IAF officer to represent India in Paralympics Qualifiers NEW DELHI: Wing Commander Shantanu, a serving officer of the Indian Air Force, has been selected to represent India at the World Rowing Asia/ Oceania Continental Olympic and Paralympic Qualification Regatta which is going to be held in May 2021 in Tokyo. He picked up the sport in April 2019 and was selected by the Rowing Federation of India for the October 2019 Asian Rowing Training Camp and Championship which was held in South Korea. He finished 5th in Asia and became the First Indian Paraplegic to represent India at the event. ....
Ntouskos negotiates opening heat at European qualifier for Tokyo 2020 in Varese Monday, 5 April 2021 Greece’s Stefanos Ntouskos negotiated his opening heat at the World Rowing European Olympic and Paralympic Qualification Regatta to keep his Tokyo 2020 hopes on track in Varese. The men s single sculls has the largest field at the qualifier with 16 nations represented, with rowers targeting one of three Tokyo 2020 berths available. Ntouskos, who competed at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in the lightweight coxless four, was the top ranked athlete heading into the competition. He won his opening heat in a time of 6min 52.84sec to book his place in the semi-final stage of the qualifier. ....
European scullers set for Tokyo 2020 qualifier in Varese Sunday, 4 April 2021 Scullers will have one of their final opportunities to qualify for Tokyo 2020 at the World Rowing European Olympic and Paralympic Qualification Regatta, which starts tomorrow in Varese, Italy. The three-day event will offer qualification opportunities to European nations in the men s and women s single sculls, lightweight double sculls and PR1 men s and women s single sculls. The men s single sculls has the largest field, with 16 nations and 11 athletes who competed at the 2020 European Rowing Championships. They will contest the three available qualification spots for the postponed Olympic Games. Stefanos Ntouskos of Greece, who finished fifth at the European Championships, is the highest-ranked of those involved in Varese. ....
Tuesday, 2 March 2021 World Rowing has delayed making a decision on the status of the Asia and Oceania Olympic and Paralympic Qualification Regatta until March 8. The qualification event is currently scheduled to take place in Tokyo from May 5 to 7. World Rowing says its Executive Committee and the Organising Committee in Tokyo have agreed to wait until March 8 for a decision, with the current state of emergency set to lift on March 7. The governing body said the steps being taken by Government authorities will be clear after this date, allowing for a decision to be made on the qualifying event. Japanese media reports have suggested athletes could receive an exemption to allow entry into the country when the state of emergency is lifted. ....
