The Philippines’ rowing champion, Cris Nievarez, has placed in the Top 3 of the Men’s Single Sculls Heat and is advancing to the quarterfinals at the Tokyo Olympics.
Cris Nievarez of Atimonan, Quezon, is the first Filipino athlete to see action in the Tokyo Olympics as the quadrennial games’ first event on opening day, July 23, 2021.

The 21-year-old Filipino rower clocked 7 minutes and 22.97 seconds to place 3rd in heat 5 held at the Sea Forest Waterway in Tokyo, Japan.

The Philippines’ champion rower Cris Nievarez has qualified for the Tokyo Olympics, the 8th national athlete to join the Philippine delegation to the quadrennial summer games scheduled to be held in Japan.
The Philippine Rowing Association announced on May 10, 2021, that the 30th SEA Games Gold Medalist in lightweight men’s single sculls had secured his Olympics berth also in single sculls.

New Delhi, May 7 : The Indian rowing team comprising Arun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh won the Tokyo Olympic quota place in men s lightweight double scull event at the World Rowing Asia and Oceania Olympic and Paralympic Qualification Regatta in Tokyo on Friday.
The Indian team covered the 2000-metre course in six minutes 36.92 seconds to finish second behind host Japan who clocked six minutes 34.70 seconds. A steady pace throughout the 2000m course was key to success. The Indian team, in fact, covered the last 500m of the 2000m course faster than the eventual winners. It was a good performance, an official of the Rowing Federation of India (RFI) told IANS.

The vaccines have arrived and are still the best saviour in sight, but the trend of mutations of the Covid-19 virus has threatened to break that firewall at some levels.
