Assumption University s Department of Modern & Classical Languages & Cultures announced that
Maria Lemus-Melara, of Clinton, has become a member of Sigma Delta Pi, the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society. 
Lemus-Melara, Class of 2022, was inducted into the honor society during a virtual ceremony held on April 8.
Students inducted into Assumption s chapter of Sigma Delta Pi have demonstrated high scholarship and excellence in their studies, and in particular, the study of Spanish, said Maryanne Leone, associate professor of Spanish and one of the honor society s advisors.

Nomination papers now available
GREENFIELD Nomination papers for the city election are now available at the City Clerk’s Office, which is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
According to a notice from City Clerk Kathy Scott, all candidates must obtain signatures from registered voters in Greenfield to be put on the Nov. 2 ballot. (A preliminary election will be held in the event that double plus one of the amounts of candidates returning nomination papers.) Nomination papers must be returned to Scott by Tuesday, July 27. ....

The Berlin Conservation Commission is respectfully asking for your support of a revised wetlands protection bylaw at Annual Town Meeting on Monday, May 17, at 6:30 p.m. at Berlin Memorial School. The Conservation Commission is tasked with administering and
enforcing state and local wetlands protection codes and working to protect and preserve our tow n’s the natural resources.
To that end, we have worked with residents and the Mass. Association of Conservation Commissioners to join the over 60% of Massachusetts communities who have already adopted local measures to address some of the inevitable gaps in the state Wetlands Protection Act. ....

Lincoln conservation director receives Public Service Award

Michele Grzenda, Lincoln’s new conservation director, was recently awarded the Outstanding Public Service Award by the Massachusetts Association of Conservation Commissions.
As the former conservation administrator in Weston, Grzenda worked to care for more than 2,000 acres of conservation land and 90 miles of trails. She managed land protection projects, field restorations, sustainable forestry operations and trail improvements. In the past two years alone, she has written a Climate Change Adaption Plan for open space, helped to complete a new handicapped-accessible trail network, led a successful land protection effort for Wellington Farm and conducted a study on the ecological needs of Weston’s more than 30 conservation fields. ....

The Missouri Department of Conservation director testified Monday night in Jefferson City against a proposal to increase the size of the Conservation Commission from four to nine, saying it could lead to regional favoritism.
