The Argyle area of Jacksonville is about to get a new Whataburger, bringing the chain s restaurant total to about half a dozen in Duval County. A building permit was granted this month that allows the company to add the new Whataburger at 8239 S. Old Middleburg Road. The new restaurant will have a building space of 3,205 square feet. The permit was officially issued to Oakleaf 31 Development Corp., and the construction will be handled by Schaffer Construction LLC. The building is expected to cost about $1.7 million to complete.

Mayo Clinic is remodeling the main north-south corridor at its Southside campus at a cost of $1.9 million. The city issued a permit April 15 for Batson-Cook Co. to upgrade the first-floor corridor at the 4500 San Pablo Road S. campus. “We will be modifying the finishes on Mayo’s 1st floor main North/South corridor for patients and visitors to match the new Mayo Atrium that just opened,” Mayo spokesman Kevin Punsky said by email March 10. That includes walls, floors, the ceiling and lighting. The north corridor construction will be completed in the summer, said Punksy, interim director of media relations. When that is completed, work moves to the south corridor for completion in October.

Mayo Clinic can start construction for build-out of the Mayo Atrium restaurant to be operated by Jacksonville chefs Matthew and David Medure. The city issued a permit Feb. 26 for Batson-Cook Co. to build-out 8,400-square-feet of space into the restaurant at a cost of $5.2 million in the Southside medical center’s new retail link. Mayo spokesman Kevin Punsky said Feb. 8 that most of that amount is the restaurant although there are some construction costs outside of it. Plans show seating for 220 comprising 164 for dining, 24 in a coffee shop and 32 on the exterior patio.
