Capt. Lee Ann Holroyd is the real life 'Police Woman'


For nearly 40 years, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Lee Ann Holroyd has carved out her path to success in a male-dominated field.
She has served in many roles and faced many challenges in her long history as a deputy. Capt. Holroyd was the first female detective lieutenant and commander of Special Operations Division. Capt. Holroyd is one of the highest-ranking women in the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and on is part of its command staff.
Capt. Holoyd, who earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice administration and a master’s degree in criminal justice, wears many hats. She is the inspector general and commander of professional standards. She oversees school security and the Key West International Airport and is the head of Internal Affairs. ....

Howard County proposes changes for school resource officers

A new policy proposed in Howard County would remove school resource police officers from all middle schools, among other changes announced Wednesday.Howard County Executive Calvin Ball detailed the new policy, saying he supports keeping SROs in public schools with modifications. Since the implementation of the program here in 1996, the role of SROs has been multifaceted as we have worked toward an ideal of preventative mediation measures, mentorship and strengthening community relationships with law enforcement, Ball said. I wholeheartedly believe that our community can find the right balance to preserve safety, promote equity and make progress on our county s inclusive values and academic success. I am well aware that in our own back yard, we have work to do as it relates to remedying persisted inequities. MARYLAND ADDS 13,100 JOBS IN MARCH: Maryland’s economy added 13,100 jobs in March and the state’s unemployment rate remained at 6.2%, according to preliminary data released by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics on Friday morning. Maryland added 1,200 jobs in February. The national unemployment rate is at 6%, reports Bryan Renbaum of Maryland Reporter.
