UMaine museums support remote instruction, learning - UMaine News


University of Maine museums and planetarium have a rich library of online resources available to support remote K–12 instruction during the pandemic. 
The Page Farm and Home Museum offers Virtual Field Trip Experiences, via Zoom, to school groups, homeschool groups, and college classes. Groups can take an introductory tour, select a virtual visit topic, or request a program tailored to specific curricular needs by calling the museum at 207.581.4100. Online resources and a Whatz-It? challenge are also available to supplement remote learning for students of all ages. 
The Versant Power Astronomy Center offers a wide array of Virtual Astronomy Experiences to support online exploration of the universe for schoolchildren of every age. Maine’s Wondrous Night Sky, Planet Parade, Mysterious Moon and Me, and Voyage Through the Universe are a few of the lessons available — all are supplemented with age-appropriate resources from NASA, the National Oceanic and Atmos ....

UNION Shawn Laatsch, director of the Versant Power Astronomy Center and Jordon Planetarium at the University of Maine, will take participants on a guided tour of the winter night sky and discuss the use of binoculars and telescopes for stargazing during the next Zoom with Vose Wednesdays at 6 p.m. Binoculars, Telescopes and the Deep Sky will be held Jan. 6.
This program also is designed to offer information about the Vose Library telescope donated by Cornerstones of Science that will be available for patrons to borrow in the future. ....

Join Shawn Laatsch, director of the Versant Power Astronomy Center and Jordon Planetarium at the University of Maine, Wednesday, Jan. 6, at 6 p.m., as he takes participants on a guided tour of the winter night sky and discusses the use of binoculars and telescopes for stargazing.
This “Zoom with Vose Wednesdays at 6 p.m.” program is also designed to offer information about the Vose Library telescope (donated by Cornerstones of Science) that will be available for patrons to borrow in the future.

(Clifton) – Police say a 30-year old Dennysville man driving on a suspended license suffered critical injuries in yesterday’s crash that closed down Route 9 in Clifton. State Troopers say 30-year-old Jay Preston of Dennysville crossed the centerline in his pickup and struck a tractor-trailer driven by 56-year-old Rodney Tolman of Amherst.  Firefighters had to cut Preston from his vehicle.  The crash closed Route 9 for more than 10 hours as workers removed the tree-length logs from that spilled from the tractor-trailer.
