It s no surprise to most that education has changed dramatically in recent years. One of the reasons is, of course, the integration of technology in many forms: from the network infrastructures to integrating devices, such as laptops, wireless projectors, digital tablets, online learning environments, and more.
The physical walls of the classroom have come down, so to speak.
There are many other factors influencing change, both positive and negative. Like it or not, increasing numbers of students come to us needing extra help in many areas. Old systems and programs are not always adequate to address needs. This is true not only in our district but across the state as well as the nation. ....

All USD 428 schools use interventions, enrichment
Lincoln Elementary School students work on math skills with a teacher aide during WIN (What I Need) Time. During this daily 30-minute period, students are assigned to small groups to work on the math skills where they need the most help, or they may dig deeper into reinforcing what they’ve already learned. There is also a 40-minute WIN Time for reading.
More than an hour of every day at Lincoln Elementary School is WIN Time, Principal Misty Straub said. ....

Earlier this month the state’s Education Department released graduation rates for districts across the board.
The news was good: Graduation rates ticked upward to 84.8% in New York State. It reflected a 1.4 percentage point increase from year prior. It also showed a strong trend upward from the group of students who graduated a decade ago – when the state’s graduation rate sat at 76.8%.
Dr. Christopher Brown, who serves as superintendent of the Marcus Whitman Central School District says graduation data is wonderful, but paints an incomplete picture. In fact, every superintendent we talked to shared that sentiment. ....

PED Presents Near-Flat $3.3B Budget Request For Schools

SANTA FE The New Mexico Public Education Department (PED) is requesting a near-flat $3.3 billion budget for public schools in the next fiscal year while rolling out plans to increase the share going to schools with the greatest need.
“Equity is at the heart of this budget request,” Public Education Secretary Ryan Stewart said. “We’re getting additional money to the kids who need it most while giving districts the flexibility to determine at a local level what their students need.”
Stewart presented the Public School Support budget request to the Legislative Finance Committee Wednesday. ....
