The Theatres Trust said in a statement that while the coronavirus pandemic has had a “devastating” impact on the UK theatre industry, “relatively few theatre operators have ceased trading and fortunately none of the buildings left empty look to be in imminent danger”. Other theatres featured on the list, which is in its 14th year, include the Streatham Hill Theatre in south London, Blackpool’s Winter Gardens Pavilion and Dundee’s King’s Theatre. ....

The Brighton Hippodrome is just one of the venues on the list to be put up for sale in the second half of last year. THE first stage of stabilisation works has started at a historic Burnley entertainment venue. After years of neglect and recent building condition surveys, Burnley Empire Trust has been striving to ensure urgent works at the St James Street theatre were carried out. The future stability of any building being renovated depends on the state of the ground below. With the work a top priority, the trust took the difficult decision to turn to the public for support and launched an online crowdfunder in July 2020 with the support of designer Wayne Hemingway and actor Cel Spellman that gained local and national support. ....
