A delegation of concerned citizens called into the RM of Cornwallis’ digital council meeting on Tuesday to ask the reeve and council about several irregularities that have recently come up.

The first concern was regarding Reeve Bill Courtice’s recent purchase of a trailer for the municipality.
Coun. Sam Hofer reached out to the Sun last month to allege that Courtice had not received prior approval from council before purchasing from a business in Saskatchewan and had not self-isolated upon his return to Manitoba, contrary to public health orders put in place due to COVID-19. ....

The City of Brandon now has planning authority over subdivisions within its boundaries.

Given royal assent by the province on Dec. 3, Bill 7 makes Brandon the only jurisdiction in Manitoba outside of Winnipeg to have that authority.
The city and the Brandon Chamber of Commerce celebrated the move, calling it a reduction in red tape and an acknowledgment of the importance of the province’s second-biggest city.
Approval of subdivisions is one of the base authorities of regulating land development because it deals with ownership and the creation of separate titles, city planning director Ryan Nickel told the Sun.
