Medical examiners with the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office identified Caleb Romero, 20, of Canyon Country, as the man killed in a motorcycle crash Wednesday. The crash was reported shortly before 10:45 a.m., near the intersection of Soledad Canyon Road and Commuter Way, according to Sgt. Steve Sgrignoli of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. Romero was pronounced dead on the scene, according to the coroner’s office. Initial reports indicate that, for an unknown reason, the motorcycle crashed into the trailer attached to a city of Santa Clarita maintenance vehicle, which reportedly was stopped in the No. 3 lane with its warning lights on, as well as a lighted arrow, directing traffic to the No. 2 lane, according to Sgt. Wanted Suspect Arrested At Gunpoint On 5 Freeway After Assaulting LAPD Officer A wanted suspect was taken into custody at gunpoint on the 5 Freeway south of the Newhall Pass Monday evening after he allegedly assaulted a Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officer earlier in the day. Around 4:50 p.m. Monday, deputies were made aware of a vehicle wanted for assault on a LAPD officer traveling eastbound on Soledad Canyon Road near Commuter Way in Canyon Country, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. A deputy was able to locate the vehicle on Newhall Avenue near Sierra Highway, and requested emergency backup to his location prior to conducting a felony traffic stop, according to officials. ....
A brush fire quickly spread near Towsley Canyon on Tuesday afternoon, with initial reports indicating it had grown by 50 acres within a half-hour. The call was received by the first responders at 1:27 p.m. on the 24000 block of The Old Road. “We received a report of flames and smoke coming from an area near Towsley Canyon Park,” said Leslie Lua, a spokeswoman for the Fire Department, at 1:35 p.m. At 2 p.m., officials on the scene gave their initial report that the fire was 50 acres in size, in medium-to-heavy brush, and was being spread by 30 mph northeast winds, according to Chris Thomas, a spokesman for the Fire Department. ....
