A federal district court judge ruled today that a lawsuit challenging a 2019 decision by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to dramatically reduce federal oversight and eliminate line speed limits at pig slaughterhouses can move forward. The lawsuit, brought in 2019 by seven animal and environmental protection groups, challenges the USDA’s decision to reduce federal oversight at pig slaughterhouses and eliminate limits on the slaughter speeds, exposing pigs to greater suffering and flouting federal humane slaughter, meat inspection and environmental-
