You likely have been impressed with the 0-60 mph sprint times being posted by electric vehicles. So has the National Hot Rod Association, which has announced a new racing class to launch in 2022 and it’s for electric vehicles.

NHRA announces new electric vehicle racing class for 2022 Summit Racing Series

The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) has announced the creation of an all-new electric vehicle (EV) racing class that will join the NHRA Summit Racing Series in 2022. Electric cars will compete within the Summit Racing Series in all seven NHRA Divisions.
“We are thrilled for this new opportunity for our NHRA competitors,” said NHRA President Glen Cromwell. “NHRA Drag Racing is about performance and innovation, and we look forward to seeing how these vehicles will perform in 2022.”
For decades, NHRA s member tracks have seen EVs, hybrids, and alternative-energy vehicles use their racetracks as a proving ground. Creating an EV class within the NHRA Summit Series accelerates the NHRA s commitment to its racers and partners looking to develop new technology. With the rise in performance of electric street vehicles also comes the need for the NHRA to provide a safe place to race and a platform for competitors to evolve and demonstrate their capabilities. NHRA Postpones Lucas Oil Winternationals at Pomona
NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series event was originally scheduled for April 9-11 weekend in California.

The traditional season-opening event of the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series was bumped out of the leadoff spot and into April because of fan restrictions at Pomona (Calif.) Raceway.
Well, the event is moving once again.
NHRA officials announced today the postponement of the 61st annual Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals presented by ProtectTheHarvest.com at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona, originally scheduled for April 9-11. NHRA and track officials will continue to look to state and federal health officials for recommendations to host events in California. ....

the first time in its 36-year history,

Tour fans can enjoy watching both tours race over eight different
weeks at various tracks, featuring a fresh mix of annual favorites, returning
gems and one new addition.
Both
tours are scheduled to race 30 dates over an eight-week stretch, starting with
the kickoff at Indiana’s Brownstown Speedway on Tuesday, June 15.
