UK developer Ivy Farm Technologies sets sights on producing 12,000 tonnes of cultivated pork each year by 2025
The British public may soon be able to enjoy the flavour of sausages with none of the environmental and ethical guilt, thanks to the emergence of sustainable slaughter-free meat grown in a lab.
Ivy Farm Technologies, an Oxford University spin-out pioneering the development of lab-grown meat, announced this week that it hopes to be the first company to put cultured meat on UK plates. The company said its guilt-free sausages were on track to appear in supermarkets and restaurants by 2023, with meatballs and beef burger products set to follow. ....

Ivy Farm Technologies, an Oxford University spin-out, has revealed lofty ambitions to become the first commercial producer of sustainable, cultured meat in the UK, thanks to its unique technology.
Despite global trends toward more plant-based diets, as a species our appetite for meat continues unabated. Amid blatant evidence that current agricultural practices are unsustainable, research into alternative options for meat production have progressed significantly, with Singapore becoming the first country in the world to approve cultured meat for sale last December.
Gathering momentum on home shores, co-founder of the new startup Dr Russ Tucker said Ivy Farm plans to put Britain on the map in this emerging industry by producing cultured meat products – beginning with a slaughter-free sausage – for supermarkets and the restaurant trade from 2023.  ....

You may or may not know that Winston Churchill foresaw the development of lab-grown meat.
“We shall escape the absurdity of growing a whole chicken in order to eat the breast or wing,”​ he wrote in a 1931 essay, 
“by growing these parts separately under a suitable medium.” ​Doing so would free up land that had been used for growing crops to feed farm animals, he concluded, allowing parks and gardens to “
cover our pastures and ploughed fields​.”
Now, nearly 90 years on, a company is hoping to become the first British commercial cultured meat producer after creating its first test lab-made sausages given the codename ‘Churchill’ in homage to the prophetic statesman. ....
