LAHORE: Secretary Specialised Healthcare Punjab Nabeel Ahmed Awan has said that as many as 7,576 beds are reserved in all government hospitals for COVID-19 patients out of which 5,518 beds are unoccupied.
In a handout issued on Wednesday, he further said that 1,648 beds reserved in government hospitals of the provincial metropolis of which 1,194 beds were vacant. The Secretary SHC&MED further said that in view of the surging corona pandemic, the department had arranged 3,328 beds in isolation wards of all government hospitals in the province out of which 2,765 beds were vacant.
He further said that of 446 beds for corona patients reserved in isolation wards set up in government hospitals of Lahore 356 beds were unoccupied. He also said that health department had arranged 789 ventilators for corona patients in all hospitals of the provincial government, of which 333 ventilators ....

S&P, CRISIL, and ICRA cut India's GDP estimate due to Covid wave — Quartz India


The second wave of Covid-19 has made economists less hopeful about India’s growth prospects.
At least four leading rating agencies have trimmed their GDP growth forecasts for India for the financial year ending March 2022. These agencies had initially estimated double-digit growth for the Indian economy due to a low base and revival of business activities in the country after the first wave of Covid in 2020.
For instance, Mumbai-based CRISIL, which had earlier pegged India’s economic growth for fiscal 2022 at 11%, has lowered its estimate to 8.2% in a worst-case scenario.

These sharp revisions in estimates come at a time when India is grappling with record Covid-19 deaths and new infections. As of May 19, the new infections remain above the 250,000-mark. The pandemic-related deaths have also stayed above the 3,500-mark. ....

About a few weeks ago, in the middle of the worst phase of the second wave of the pandemic, there was a massive shortage of beds with oxygen supply, and ICU beds and ICU beds with ventilators, with cases spiralling up to as high as over 28,000 on April 20, with a huge number of fatalities recorded every day.
At the Delhi government-run hospitals, the tally of vacant ICU beds were GTB Hospital (411 beds out of 900), LNJP Hospital (266 out of 750), Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital (133 out of 325), among other facilities. ....

Health chief: ICU beds in Sarawak full, public must do its part to cut Covid-19 infections


KUCHING: Sarawak hospitals intensive care unit (ICU) beds for Covid-19 patients are full, says state health director Dr Chin Zin Hing.
Appealing to the public to play its part, he said there was an urgent need to cut Covid-19 transmissions to reduce the number of hospital admissions.
Our ICU beds are full across the state. The doctors are working very hard every day to turn over the ventilators or ICU beds so that the next patient in need can benefit.
At current moment, in all major Sarawak hospitals, we are running 92 ICU beds – all full, he said in a statement on Monday (May 17), adding that each bed was used for 10 days on average. ....
