The Friends of the Betsie Valley Trail are excited to finally undergo a resurfacing project that’s been over a year in the making.
The Betsie Valley Trail is a 22 mile stretch of trail located in Benzie County for walking and biking.
The stretch of trail along Crystal Avenue in Beulah has suffered from years of foot traffic and erosion.

The Day - Authority's positive response to our 'ethical' suggestion - News from southeastern Connecticut

The Connecticut Port Authority has taken a lot of heat, and for good reason. The state legislature is debating everything from requiring it to file more frequent reports with greater transparency to dissolving it.
Meanwhile, ousting a road-salt distributor from State Pier in New London in the midst of this nasty winter to make way for redevelopment that remains uncertain and is not close to happening yet has been about as popular as Cruella de Vil’s approach to dalmatian puppies.
In the past, business was steered to folks with board connections and authority plastic used to charge some dubious expenses. ....

The Day - A conflict? 'Not even close,' says port authority member. - News from southeastern Connecticut

It’s with great pleasure that I write the newspaper to not only refute disparaging information provided by David Collins’s column Feb. 9 , but to also talk about the mud-slinging campaign he is waging against the Connecticut Port Authority and its members. It’s uncalled for and serves no purpose other than to undermine the efforts of the authority to rebuild State Pier for the betterment of all of Connecticut – not just New London.
But let me address his accusations and innuendo about my ownership of a 35,000-square-foot commercial building on Crystal Avenue in New London. I have owned that building since 1999, have paid my fair share of taxes, and employed as many as 50 people when I owned a machine shop that I relocated from Essex. To read about Collins accusing me of a conflict of interest by sitting and voting on the port authority makes my blood boil. ....

No Injuries Reported In Accident Near Arcadia Monday

Both drivers were uninjured following a collision between a semi and a pickup truck south of Arcadia on Monday afternoon. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the scene of the accident at the intersection of U.S. Highway 30 and Crystal Avenue at approximately 12:42 p.m. Their initial investigation revealed a 2018 International semi-tractor trailer, driven by 47-year-old William Leon Robeson of Monroe, N.C., was traveling eastbound on 30. At the same time, a 2012 Chevrolet Colorado, driven by 82-year-old Karen Lee Wetzstein of Lake View, was stopped facing southbound on Crystal Avenue and was preparing to turn eastbound. Authorities say a second semi next to Wetzstein was turning west onto Highway 30 and obstructed her view of the oncoming Robeson semi. She proceeded into the intersection, colliding with the tires on the rear driver’s side of the trailer. The pickup was deemed a total loss with an estimated $10,000 in damage while the trailer sustained approxim ....
