A QUESTION of considerable importance is being discussed at Simla, and has formed the subject of more than one Open Letter addressed by the Editor of the local organ, Luddell’s Simla Weekly, to high officials. This question is as to whether it is right and proper that a member, whose election to the Legislative Council has been declared void by the Local Government on the ground that he was guilty of “corrupt practices” as defined in electoral rules, is competent to hold other public offices such as membership of the Municipal Committee and the Imperial Staff Selection Board. The question has been raised with reference to Khan Bahadur Mir Mohammad Khan, B.A., M.B.E., who had been returned to the Punjab Council by a majority of one vote by the South Eastern (Muhammadan) constituency by an order of the Punjab Government, based on the report of the Election Commissioners made in June last. Punjab Arts Council launches book Mutaliat Hamd-o-Naat

A book launching ceremony titled “Mutaliat Hamd-o-Naat” by the well-known poet and critic Naseem-e-Sahar was held under the auspices of Punjab Council of the Arts in collaboration with Halqa-e-Ilm-o-Adab. The ceremony was presided over by Chairman Pakistan Academy of Letters Yousuf Khushk while Professor Dr Ehsan Akbar, Anjum Khaliq, Dr Fauzia Sehar Malik and Dr Farhat Abbas were included among guests of honour. The author of the book Naseem Sahar also gave a brief commentary on his book. Dr Yusuf Khushk, Chairman PAL gave a detailed account of Naseem Sahar’s book and termed the book an outstanding one. He expressed his hope that his creative journey would continue in future. A large number of people from literary circles participated in book launching ceremony.
