State awards $2.7 million grant for South Texas drainage study

Funded in part by a state grant, a master plan study will aim to combat flooding and water quality issues in Nueces, Kleberg and Jim Wells counties.
In May, the Texas Water Development Board approved a grant of about $2.1 million for the study, which is a collaboration between Nueces, Jim Wells and Kleberg counties; the Nueces County Drainage District No. 2; and the city of Driscoll.
The study will involve developing hydrology/hydraulic computer models of the Baffin Bay and South Corpus Christi watersheds across all three counties.
The study will cover Agua Dulce Creek, Petronila Creek, Alazan Bay/Baffin Bay and Oso Creek. ....

Crews are handing out sandbags for the second straight day, and they plan to continue handing out sandbags while they can due to the risk of flooding in the area.

Robstown - The Nueces County Drainage District 2 (NCDD2) announced the award of approval by the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) to begin with four major capital improvement projects in Robstown.
On Thursday, Feb. 25, the TWDB awarded NCDD2 $2,439,136 in grant funding and $2,601,015 in project financing from the flood infrastructure fund of the State of Texas.
“This opportunity is a blessing for our community. I grew up here in bluebonnet, so I know how important this is to the district, for far too long this area has been neglected,” said Balde Torres III, Chairman NCDD2. “I am proud of the collaboration we have built in our region, with the school districts, the city and county. ROBSTOWN, Texas â After almost two hours of discussion in an executive session with Nueces County Drainage District #2 Commissioners and an off-the-cuff dialogue between the county judge and residents in a separate room, it was decided that flood concerns tied to the Petronila-area will finally reach a decision on Monday, Jan. 25 at 6 p.m.
The tabling of that discussion came after one Petronila resident had again come forward with frustration upon hearing that commissioners might withdraw their application for a $550,000 grant from the Texas Water Development Board after Nueces County Judge Barbara Canales introduced a proposal that would include Nueces, Jim Wells, and Kleberg counties. ....
