MYERS COLUMBIANA A longtime city police officer has been chosen to fill the police chief position vacated by Tim Gladis in November due to retirement. On Tuesday, council unanimously approved hiring Bill Myers as police chief following the recommendation from City Manager Lance Willard. Myers has more than 23 years of experience in law enforcement. He first joined the Columbiana department in 1995 as a part-time officer and was recently promoted to full-time before opting to try for the open position. “We believe that he is going to be a great part of the team,” Willard said. Willard said that Myers has supervisory experience, and has worked with all of the city departments over the years. ....

Special to the Journal COLUMBIANA In addition to filling the police chief’s job, the city police department will be hiring a two new officers. City Manager Lance Willard informed city council this week of the upcoming need for new officers after two left to join the county sheriff’s office. A civil service test will be held. He also said that interviews will be conducted this month for the chief position following the retirement of Tim Gladis. The city is getting assistance from the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) for the search for a new chief and the non-profit organization held an assessment center for the position on Jan. 23. ....
Special to the Salem News COLUMBIANA The city should have a new police chief by the end of this month or in February. City Manager Lance Willard said during this week’s council meeting that the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) is assisting the city with the search for a new chief and the process takes about 90 days. Former chief Tim Gladis announced his retirement on Nov. 4 after 11 years of service. Gladis had more than 40 years experience in law enforcement and was named police chief in July of 2009. Since his retirement Sgt. Chris Dailey has stepped in until a replacement can be found. ....
