The Bureau of Land Management seeks public comment on geotechnical survey environmental assessment LAS VEGAS The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Southern Nevada District announces the availability of a draft environmental assessment to address potential environmental consequences associated with a proposal by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to construct a multi-use trail in sections of Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area (RRCNCA). The proposed trail would start from the intersection of Charleston Boulevard and Sky Vista Drive in Summerlin and ending at the RRCNCA fee station approximately 5.5 miles to the southwest in Clark County, Nevada. The FHWA is proposing to build a paved recreational trail through undeveloped land across the RRCNCA. The trail will provide pedestrians new and safe opportunities to enjoy the countryside away from the noise and safety hazards of a heavily traveled section of Nevada State Route 159 (SR 159). The trail will be designe ....

SSC Tuatara Hits 282.9 MPH In New Top Speed Run To Prove Naysayers Wrong ++ That s the average of two runs, with the absolute top speed being 286.1 mph. With the Tuatara’s original top speed attempt tarnished by controversy, SSC North America had no other way but to redo the run. In an attempt to clear up any accusations about tampering with the video footage of the original run that took place last October, the hypercar marque now claims it has legitimately set a new top speed record during a second official run. Rather than going back to the Nevada State Route 160 where the first attempt took place, SSC gained access to the Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds at Space Florida s Shuttle Landing Facility. We’ve covered our fair share of top speed runs that took place at the former Space Shuttle runway in Florida, but no other car has gone faster than the Tuatara. ....
Staff Report Update 12:30 p.m. The National Weather Service in Reno has upgraded the incoming multi-day snowstorm to a Blizzard Warning that is in effect from 10 p.m. Tuesday night through 4 a.m. Friday. The service has also upgraded snow totals at lake level with 2 to 4 feet now expected with 3 to 6 feet forecast for above 7,000 feet with periods of thundersnow. The service is advising travelers to stay home once the snow starts to fly. Officials say there will be zero visibility through Friday morning and strong winds could cause tree damage and power outages. “This is a life threatening situation,” the service said. “Do not attempt to travel. If you risk travel over the Sierra passes, you could be stuck in your car for several hours, if not a day. Cold wind chills as low as 20 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.” ....
INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. – The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection announced that $1 million in Clean Water Act grant funds provided by the U.S Environmental Protection Agency will be used to complete 11 projects, including two in Lake Tahoe, to reduce “nonpoint source pollution” and improve water quality across the state. The EPA used to focus solely on point sources, i.e. chemicals being leached from pipes into the water as the water flowed through. They later realized nonpoint source water pollution was also a major issue. Nonpoint source water pollution degrades Nevada’s water resources when rain, snowmelt and irrigation water flows over developed or disturbed land, carrying with it pollutants including oil, sediment, pesticides, bacteria and nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus which can contribute to excess algae growth. This polluted water makes its way into Nevada’s waterways either directly or through st ....
