After spending 94 days in the hospital battling COVID-19, a beloved Georgia police chief is headed home.  Surrounded by a crowd of cheering doctors and nurses, Blue Ridge Chief Johnny Scearce waved goodbye to those at Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI) Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga. The hospital posted a video of the honor walk  on Thursday. Chief Scearce s wife, Brenda said her husband caught MRSA and suffered from a collapsed lung during his months-long battle with the virus. She said that he did not have any underlying conditions, but she worried that her husband would not come out on the other side.

CHI Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga shared an emotional video of Blue Ridge Police Chief Johnny Scearce being released. Scearce had been at the hospital for 94 days after being infected with the virus. At one point, the police chief was in the ICU on a ventilator.

Blue Ridge Police Chief Johnny Scearce remained in the hospital Wednesday as he continued a three-month battle against COVID-19. According to a GoFundMe page, Scearce is hospitalized in Chattanooga, TN which has created a “tremendous financial strain on his family,” due to weekly stays at local lodging. The page says Scearce’s family can visit him daily. “Chief Scearce has dedicated his life as a public servant and is one of the longest-tenured police chiefs in the state of GA,” reads the page. The City of Blue Ridge website states Scearce has held the position since 1991, longer than any other chief in the city’s history.
