'Trying to find a balance'


Hardridge’s latest work “Unbridled” is on view at Santa Fe’s Blue Rain Gallery.
The artist grew up in central Oklahoma surrounded by the artistic traditions of his culture. His formal training includes a fine arts degree in illustration and painting from the Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia. Later studies at France’s Nadaï Verdon Atelier of Decorative Arts emphasized harmony and composition.
Hardridge once painted in a very traditional, muted style until the 2014 death of his father triggered a seismic stylistic change.
“I was going through a transitional period in painting,” he said in a telephone interview from Knoxville, Tennessee. “I was studying the beadwork and trying to put together work representing loss and resistance at the same time, and the narrative of Southeast Native removal from Alabama to Oklahoma.” ....

Artist Rimi Yang gathers precious gemstones of pigment, infusing them with an ethereal sensibility in a feminine fusion of East and West.
The Korea-born, Japan-raised painter began as a librarian before a divorce propelled her onto an artistic path. Her paintings are on view at Santa Fe’s Blue Rain Gallery.

“My mother told me before I talked, I was drawing,” Yang said in a telephone interview from Los Angeles. “I didn’t even think of artist as a profession. But when I was in high school, I was always in the art club.” ....

Light & color: Artisan duo creates glass pottery with pueblo designs, vibrant palette

Pueblo kiva steps scatter across Jody Naranjo’s pottery like butterflies. But this time, they glitter with light.
The Santa Clara potter is collaborating with the legendary Tlingit glass artist Preston Singletary to create glass pottery with Naranjo’s distinctive pueblo designs. Their pairing resulted in 15 pieces displayed at Santa Fe’s Blue Rain Gallery through April 17.

The show marks the third time the two artists have worked together. Singletary first approached Naranjo about the idea 12 years ago.
“It was a natural because she is such a sweetheart,” Singletary said in a telephone interview from Seattle. “I had also collaborated with (potter/sculptor) Tammy Garcia and (bead artist) Marcus Amerman. ....

Each Artist has been tasked with identifying and reinterpreting a masterwork by Joseph Henry Sharp (1859 - 1953).
