The Federal Government has flagged off the Extended Special Public Works (ESPW) programme for 25,000 beneficiaries in Niger State as part of efforts to cushion the socio-economic effect of Covid-19 in Nigeria.
The Minister of State, Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Zubairu Dada, on Tuesday, at the flag-off ceremony in Minna, said that the programme was adopted as a result of the outcome of its pilot scheme in rural areas, in some eight states of the federation.
He explained that this was in order to gauge its impact on addressing the ballooning population of the unemployed youths and rising insecurity in the country. ....

The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has disclosed that the Extended Special Public Works programme (ESPW) was conceived as a strategy to tackle growing unemployment and insecurity in the country.
Aregbesola, who spoke during the flag-off of the Osun State special public works programme at the Local Government Service Commission, Government Secretariat, Abere Osun State.
The Minister who was represented by the former Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security in the State, Mr Kunle Ige, said the programme is aimed at addressing the most vulnerable people in the society from the economic effect of the coronavirus pandemic. ....

Nigerian government begins three-month special public works scheme in Jigawa

The federal government on Friday inaugurated the Extended Special Public Works (ESPW) programme in Jigawa with 1,000 unskilled youth benefiting from the 27 local government areas of the state.
Each participant will receive N20,000 monthly for three months for the duration of the programme.
The Minister of Water Resources, Suleiman Adamu, who made this known at the ceremony in Dutse, said that the extended programme was an outcome of the pilot SPW in rural areas approved by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2020.
Mr. Adamu said that the programme was introduced following the emergence of the novel COVID-19 pandemic, as a measure to cushion the adverse socio-economic effects on citizens. ....

ESPW Programme: Ganduje commends FG for engaging 44,000 youths in Kano state

Kano, Jan. 6, 2020 Kano state Governor, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje on Wednesday, commended the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration for engaging 44,000 youths in the Extended Special Public Works (ESPW) programme in the state.
The governor, represented by his Deputy, Nasir Yusuf-Gawuna gave the commendation at the inauguration of the programme in Kano on Wednesday.
According to him, the federal government initiated the programme with a view to alleviate the sufferings of several Nigerians, adding that it will assist the beneficiaries to be engaged in three months programme at N20,000 monthly.
Ganduje also commended the federal government for providing N20,000 grants to over 8,000 women across the 44 Local Government Areas of the state. ....
