Kano state government seeks $27m dollars to commission Inland Port in December

By Abbas Bamalli Kano, March 6, 2021 Alhaji Ahmed Rabiu, Managing Director, Dala Inland Dry Port in Kano State says the project will cost 27 million dollars. Conducting an inspection of the project located at Zawaciki, in Kumbotso Local Government Area of the state, Rabiu, said the first would be completed by June at a cost 17 million dollars. The port was conceived 20 years ago by the Federal Government. Rabiu said that the Kano State government already earmarked N2.3 billion for the construction of access road, perimeter fence, electricity and water supply at the site. “We are going to compete favourably with Lagos in terms of revenue generation and also reduce the loss of containers while in transit between Lagos and Kano.

Kano govt closes 4 tertiary institutions over insecurity

By Abbas Bamalli Kano, Feb. 27, 2021 The Kano State government has directed the immediate closure of four tertiary institutions in the state, following security challenges in some neighboring states. The Commissioner for Higher Education, Hajiya Mariya Mahmud-Bunkure, announced this in a statement issued on Saturday in Kano. She listed the affected institutions to include: RMK College of Advanced and Remedial Studies, Tundun Wada and School of Environmental Studies, Gwarzo. Other affected institutions, according to the commissioner, are: School of Rural Technology and Entrepreneurship Development (SORTED), Rano and Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Dambatta. She advised students of all the affected schools to vacate their campuses as soon as possible.

Malam Muhammad Kiru, the state Commissioner for Education, confirmed this to newsmen on Friday in Kano. According to him, the decision to close the schools followed the recent kidnapping of some female boarding school students in Niger and Zamfara States. He said: “It was necessary for the Kano State Government to take proactive measures to prevent the occurrence of such incidents in our schools. “As you know, the state government always takes proactive measures on issues related to security, especially that it affects students.

Zakari, also elected Chairman, Tarauni local government council in Kano State, said this on Thursday shortly after revalidating his APC membership at Unguwar Gano ward in Tarauni Local Government Area (LGA) of the state. “There are indications that some members of the opposition have begun making consultations towards joining the APC since the beginning of the exercise,” he said. Zakari urged party faithful across the country, especially in Kano State to come out en mass to register and revalidate their membership.
