The Martha s Vineyard Times To the Editor: We must applaud the Martha’s Vineyard Chiefs of Police Association for its vision and proactive coordination in establishing a need for implicit bias training and seeking a pre-eminently qualified and experienced training team from Hilliard Heintze to facilitate sessions on-Island May 4-6. We wish to thank the Martha’s Vineyard Community Foundation (also known as the Permanent Endowment) and the Martha’s Vineyard Diversity Coalition for joining our group, the Martha’s Vineyard Social Justice Leadership Foundation, in providing financial support for this training endeavor. We also commend their sincere invitation of including a community segment in the Leadership Course to share the curricula framework presented to all police personnel this week, and listen to its feedback about racially just policing and recommendations for advancing a progressive agenda for action. ....
Massachusetts community foundations get $5M in state COVID relief grants Updated Mar 12, 2021; The Baker administration Friday allocated an additional $5 million to charitable community foundations across the state to provide immediate relief from economic hardships for families and individuals due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Over the last year the state has allocated a total of $15 million through the Community Foundations Grant Program for COVID-19 Relief. Katie Allan Zobel, president and CEO of the Community Foundations of Western Massachusetts, said the $423,035 allocated to her organization Friday brings the agency’s total to more than $1.2 million since the first of the year. “This is the first time that community foundations have received money from the state like this,” Zobel said. “That speaks to the urgent nature of the need. We have the resources to get the money to people with the greatest need.” ....
The Martha s Vineyard Times Itâs time to apply for scholarships The Marthaâs Vineyard Community Foundation, formerly the Permanent Endowment of Marthaâs Vineyard, announced that applications for 2021 scholarships are now open for Island students. For the past 30 years, this organization has granted more than 1,600 scholarships for students looking to attend a college or university, and aided in supporting students already in postgraduate education or mariners pursuing their captainâs license. With a multitude of different scholarship options available, students are advised to apply for whichever suits their needs best. While they can apply for as many as they want, students will most likely only be awarded one scholarship. ....
