Newton Med recently announced a new collaboration with Wichita Diabetes and Endocrinology to provide diabetes and endocrinology care to patients in Newton and the surrounding communities.
We are very excited to have this opportunity to work with Newton Medical Center and provide services to referring physicians and patients in Newton and other area communities, said Georges Elhomsy, MD, managing member of WDE.
Starting January of 2021, after seven years of practicing in Newton, Dr. Jan Hoffman has started reducing his clinic time and transitioning his practice to Wichita Diabetes and Endocrinology. The providers of WDE will begin sharing office space with Dr. Hoffman and seeing new patients beginning Feb. 9. ....

Newton NJ man Edwin Greene charged after police shooting incident

An 80-year-old Newton man was charged with attempted murder Wednesday after he fired two shots toward Newton officers during a Tuesday afternoon melee that led to a town-wide lockdown.
Edwin Greene, who resides on Spring Street, is receiving mental health treatment at Overlook Medical Center in Summit and will be jailed upon his release, according to a release by the Newton police.
Greene is also facing weapons charges and eluding following the incident that unfolded after he called police stating he was suicidal and was in the parking garage of the Newton Town Centre complex with a gun, police said. ....

The frustration was palpable as people, mostly senior citizens, began to line up in the cold outside the ShopRite of Byram vaccination clinic shortly after 8 a.m. Thursday, only to be told no appointments were available and to try again next week.
For Jane Wintermute, 76, of Sparta and Helen Totaro, 83, of Roxbury, it meant being turned away after dialing the store s vaccination hotline repeatedly over the last 10 days and struggling just to get through.
I keep calling the number, and they said they re out of the vaccine but to keep trying, Wintermute said. ....

N.J. man, 80, charged with attempted murder for firing handgun toward police officers, cops say

A Sussex County man faces attempted murder and other charges for allegedly firing two shots toward a police officer before driving off in his car to a hospital, authorities said Wednesday.
Police were called about 1:30 p.m. Monday to a report of a suicidal man in a parking garage, according to an affidavit of probable cause.
When police got there, they identified the man as Greene and attempted to calm him down, the affidavit states.
“After multiple attempts to deescalate, Greene fired two rounds from a handgun in the officer’s direction,” the affidavit states. ....
