Tullamore clubs raise incredible sum to honour club legend Reporter: ); ); Tullamore GAA, Camogie and Ladies Football Clubs raised in excess of €8,000 for motor neurone disease and homeless causes through a relay marathon which was staged last weekend. The initiative was the brainchild of Tullamore senior football manager Niall Stack and a number of his players, who wanted to put their weight behind club legend and two-time All-Ireland winner Paddy Fenning’s last fundraising campaign, which he set in motion before his passing from motor neurone disease in May of last year. With the Tullamore hurling, camogie and ladies football teams subsequently coming on board, momentum swelled behind the relay marathon, which had over 180 participants over the course of last Friday, Saturday and Sunday in tandem with a highly effective social media campaign coordinated by Tullamore GAA PRO Aoife Marron, which helped to drive donations online. ....

Back in the 1960s and 70s the Quay area of Dundalk could boast 16 active pubs which were kept busy by a thriving community. Today that number has been whittled to a mere four, but one that has stood the test of time and is hugely popular with locals and many others is Kehoe s bar on the corner of Quay Street and St. Joseph s Park (The Sand Hole) that remains in favour and is a bustling hive of activity. The bar itself can be traced back to the early 1930s when it started life as a grocery shop with a small snug attached that helped to service the area. The premises was originally owned by the O Callaghan family who had three sons. One became a priest, one an engineer and son Dick eventually took over the running of the bar from his parents in the mid 1960s after they had built up a thriving business in a very competitive area. ....

Picture: Supplied TWO Mornington Sea Scouts have come so far to win the highest award in Scouting that a little disruption called lockdown could not dampen their spirits last week. Instead of Noah Jackson, 17, and Megan Holt, 18, being presented with their Queen Scout awards at Government House, Saturday 13 February, they had to make do with a private celebration for family and fellow Scouts at Camp Niall, Tuerong, the week before. The 2nd Mornington Sea Scouts Venturers gained a range of skills and studied diligently to individually achieve the peak award in Scouting which is realised by only a small number of their peers because of the work – up to 300 hours – required. It is made up of four components – the Community Involvement area, the Adventurous Activity area, the Personal Growth area, and the Leadership area. ....
