Thirteen candidates are vying for four district council seats on the Killeen City Council in the May 1 election, with early voting starting on Monday. There are five candidates competing for District 1, currently held by Shirley Fleming, two candidates competing for District 2, three candidates for District 3 and three candidates for District 4. The District 2 seat is currently held by Debbie Nash-King, who is running for reelection against William Baumgartner. The District 3 seat was held by Jim Kilpatrick, who died in January, and is currently held by interim Councilmember Terry Clark. The District 4 seat is currently held by Steve Harris, who is running for reelection. ....
The Killeen City Council tonight will consider approval of naming current Public Works Director Danielle Singh as the cityâs new assistant city manager. Singh s name is being put forward by City Manager Kent Cagle, following a nationwide search in which the city received 59 applications and conducted six interviews with candidates for the job that was advertised with a salary in the $160,000 range. The vote could take place as early as tonight during the Killeen City Council meeting. While Killeen Mayor Jose Segarra said the job search for a replacement of former Assistant City Manager David Ellison was transparent and by the book, some of the current councilmembers expressed concern, saying they were not kept in the loop regarding the progress of the search. ....

Following a closed meeting Monday, the council unanimously approved the nomination of former Killeen City Councilman Terry Clark to the District 3 council seat. Clarkâs name was put in nomination by Councilman Ken Wilkerson. Also under consideration were former Councilman Jared Foster and Nina Cobb, a candidate in the May 1 council race. Mayor Jose Segarra said that the decision to nominate Clark, in addition to his being âthe most impressiveâ nominee, also stems largely from the councilâs original intent not to nominate someone on the May ballot for the council seat. This represented the deciding factor. Clark served on the Killeen City Council from 2011 to 2015. ....
