The two administrators of the Boeing Financial Assistance Fund, Kenneth R. Feinberg and Camille S. Biros, announced today that the fund – designed to provide $50 million in immediate financial assistance to the families of those victims of the Lion Air Flight 610 and Ethiopian Airways Flight 302 accidents – will begin operations today. “The recent 737 MAX tragedies weigh heavily on all of us at Boeing, and we continue to extend our deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones of all those on board,” said Dennis Muilenburg, chairman, president and CEO of The Boeing Company. “The opening of this fund is an important step in our efforts to help affected families. SINGAPORE - The median household income of families who sought help from local charity Beyond Social Services fell from $1,600 before the Covid-19 pandemic to $500, a study by a charity which helps people from low-income backgrounds has found. The study, released on Tuesday (Feb 9), was conducted between April and September last year to assess the economic impact of Covid-19. It surveyed more than 1,000 applicants of Beyond s Financial Assistance Fund (FAF). It revealed that the median household income from work dropped 69 per cent. With a majority of the FAF applicants - 80 per cent - living in public rental housing, the study also found that rent as a percentage of their household income more than doubled due to the Covid-19 crisis, creating additional financial strain for these families. ....
Maine College of Art gets COVID-relief funding for students of color Share PORTLAND Maine College of Art has received $10,000 from The TD Bank Charitable Foundation to establish a COVID-Relief Financial Aid Fund for students of color who have been financially impacted by the current pandemic. Students of color make up 20% of the Maine College of Art student body. “MECA students of color face economic inequalities, similar to all communities of color nationwide, and tuition and living costs are deeply affected by the current crisis,” said Margaret Brownlee, the college’s officer of diversity, equity and inclusion. “With this fund, students who need additional support for the current or upcoming spring semester can access that aid.” ....
