WATERBURY, CT â On Sunday, May 2, The Mattatuck Museum opened âA Face Like Mine,â a new exhibition that examines Black life by positioning African-American artists to depict their own lives and culture from the Harlem Renaissance to the present day. A Face Like Mine includes over 75 works of paintings, sculpture, prints, textiles, and photographs by artists Romare Bearden, Elizabeth Catlett, Jacob Lawrence, Kerry James Marshall, Faith Ringgold, Lorna Simpson, James VanDerZee, and Kehinde Wiley and will explore themes such as identity, family, community, politics and performance. The exhibition is held in conjunction with the Grand Opening of the Mattatuckâs newly renovated and expanded facility. ....

Maine College of Art gets COVID-relief funding for students of color Share PORTLAND Maine College of Art has received $10,000 from The TD Bank Charitable Foundation to establish a COVID-Relief Financial Aid Fund for students of color who have been financially impacted by the current pandemic. Students of color make up 20% of the Maine College of Art student body. “MECA students of color face economic inequalities, similar to all communities of color nationwide, and tuition and living costs are deeply affected by the current crisis,” said Margaret Brownlee, the college’s officer of diversity, equity and inclusion. “With this fund, students who need additional support for the current or upcoming spring semester can access that aid.” ....
