The California Highway Patrol issued a reminder to the public that the responsibility for road safety rests with both riders and drivers. The message is timely, coming after five men have lost their lives in motorcycle crashes since Memorial Day weekend in northern Santa Barbara County. ....

A misdemeanor criminal charge has been filed in Santa Barbara County Superior Court in the case of a Santa Maria man accused of causing a crash that led to a motorcyclist’s death last year.
Leslie Leaney, 73, faces a misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter charge in connection with the Dec. 19 crash on Highway 101 near Jonata Park Road north of Buellton.
Leaney, driving a Volkswagen eastbound on Jonata Road, crossed the southbound lanes of Highway 101 at Jonata and stopped in the center divider to enter the northbound lanes at about noon, according to the California Highway Patrol. ....

Paso Robles woman killed after motorcycle collision with Santa Maria driver near Buellton


A Paso Robles woman was killed Saturday after her Harley-Davidson motorcycle collided with a vehicle driven by a man from Santa Maria on Highway 101 north of Buellton. 
Nicole Grantham, 31, died after suffering major injuries from a collision with a 2005 Volkswagen near the intersection of Highway 101 and Jonata Park Road shortly before noon, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Keith Rogers. 
The collision occurred after the Volkswagen, driven by 73-year-old Leslie Leaney, crossed the southbound lanes of Highway 101 eastbound via Jonata Park Road and stopped briefly before entering the northbound lanes. 
After turning left onto Highway 101 from Jonata Park Road, Leaney proceeded northbound in the left lane but crossed over into the right lane and directly into the path of Grantham s 2017 Harley-Davidson, according to Rogers.  ....

CHP identifies Paso Robles woman killed in crash near Buellton

The California Highway Patrol has identified Nicole Grantham, 31, of Paso Robles as the motorcyclist who died after colliding with a vehicle on Highway 101 near Buellton on Saturday.
Shortly before noon, Grantham was riding a 2017 Harley Davidson northbound on Highway 101 south of Jonata Park Road while Leslie Leaney, 73, of Santa Maria was driving a Volkswagen eastbound on Jonata Park Road, where it intersects with the highway.
Leaney crossed southbound traffic and stopped within the center median prior to entering northbound Highway 101. Leaney then turned onto the highway and crossed from lane one to lane two, directly in Grantham’s path. Grantham’s motorcycle hit the rear of the Volkswagen. ....

A Paso Robles woman riding a motorcycle died Saturday, hours after colliding with a vehicle on Highway 101 near Buellton, according to the California Highway Patrol.
At approximately noon, emergency personnel from the CHP and the Santa Barbara County Fire Department were dispatched to crash north of Jonata Road, CHP Officer Keith Rogers said. ....
