Schools to open full-time this fall in Scarborough, board says
Extra staff will be needed in new school year.

SCARBOROUGH Staff at Scarborough Public Schools are confident that students will return full-time in the fall, and the board of education members said they will be transparent through the planning process.
On April 15, Superintendent Sanford Prince said the district is planning to reopen schools in the fall under current assumptions about Maine Department of Education and CDC guidelines, including a three-foot distancing requirement between all students.
Because each school building is unique, an individualized approach using school-based teams will begin in May, Prince said. Groups will include school staff members such as teachers, nurses and administration as well as school board members and parents. A survey for parents regarding the groups went out on April 13. ....

This has to be the most raucous, the most bluesy, the most improvisational Rhapsody in Blue ever recorded. And not all of the best improvisation is by Marcus Roberts. Wailing clarinets and wandering trumpets abound. And it is all in a spirit of the original, so much so that I believe jazz-loving Gershwin would have approved.All of Gershwin s original music is there, but much of it is taken at unusual tempos speeded up, slowed down or synchopated with many additional minutes of improvisation that actually fit with the original. I m usually a traditionalist, so I wasn t sure I really wanted to hear a 28-minute Rhapsody in Blue, figuring it probably had a lot of filler. It doesn t. Peruvian chef Pedro Miguel Schiaffino speaks with a vendor at the Mercado de Belén in the Amazonian city of Iquitos.
“I couldn’t believe they were able to create such a complex flavor from such common ingredients,” the chef Pedro Miguel Schiaffino said of tucupi negro, a condiment used by indigenous groups throughout the Amazon.
In 2013, Schiaffino was visiting the Bora and Huitoto village of Pucaurquillo, where he noticed local women cooking down tucupi a fermented, yellow liquid extracted from grated yuca root into the thick black sauce. Flavored with piquant Amazonian chiles, nutty macambo seeds, and meaty leafcutter ants, the liquid achieves smoky, salty, and acidic qualities. He would later learn that the resulting tucupi negro is often swirled into soups and other sauces or used as a flavor enhancer for meat ....
