Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 25) Restaurants hit hard by the pandemic are seeking to turn the tables by implementing a vaccine pass system that would increase their operational capacity.
In a Senate hearing Tuesday on the government s relief measures for various industries, Restaurant Owners of the Philippines president Eric Teng lamented why people above 65 years old, even after getting their COVID-19 shots, are still not allowed to dine in restaurants. He said immunized senior citizens are priority in their proposal to issue vaccine passes.
We have been in dialogue with our mayors and the DTI (Department of Trade and Industry) and we are requesting for something called the ....

MANILA: Malacañang has rejected the call of some senators to withdraw President Duterte’s executive order that lowers to 35 percent the tariff rates on imported rice for a year.
Duterte made the decision to avert any possible rice shortage in the next months and avoid difficulty in importing rice from neighboring Southeast Asian countries, which tightened their exports last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Presidential spokesman Harry Roque Jr. cited Vietnam when it initially did not allow rice exports so it could proritise its own food security during the pandemic. Duterte had to take up the matter with Vietnam President Nguyen Xuan Phuc who agreed that the Philippines should still get supply but at much higher prices. ....

Binay wants dentists, med techs authorized as COVID-19 vaccinators

(JUAN CARLO DE VELA / MANILA BULLETIN)
Binay filed Senate Bill No. 2212 on Tuesday, May 18, as she sought to amend the current COVID-19 Vaccination Program Act (Republic Act No. 11525) to allow the said health professionals to give coronavirus shots to the public.
Under the RA 11525, only pharmacists and midwives are allowed as vaccinators, besides doctors and nurses.

Five senators on Wednesday filed a resolution urging Malacañang to withdraw Executive Order 135 which reduces the rice tariff from 40%-50% to 35% for one year.
Under Senate Resolution 726,  Minority Leader Franklin Drilon, Senators Nancy Binay, Leila de Lima, Risa Hontiveros, and Francis Pangilinan said there is “no reasonable and sufficient basis to reduce the tariff rates on rice and it will only cause more burden to our local rice farmers, further increase our import dependency, and cost the government millions in foregone revenues.” ....
