Several other districts in the Springfield-area also have ditched mask orders in recent weeks, the Springfield News-Leader reports. “It’s getting harder and harder to even get kids to keep those masks on as they are seeing people, adults and everyone in the community, not wearing masks,” Superintendent Cody Hirschi said in a video at the time. ....

Springfield News-Leader Live camera footage showed raging waters at Roaring River following severe storms that swept the southwest region of Missouri Wednesday. This is a major, major flood today, said Paul Spurgeon, Roaring River Hatchery manager. We got about three inches in 40 minutes. The canyon directly behind the fish hatchery pushed a wave of water and flushed through there pretty hard, Spurgeon said. It looked like it was still coming up, he added. When the water comes down and gets us from behind like that, it sweeps over the hatchery a little bit. The main concern is the hatchery building, which rests on the lowest area and is full of fingerlings, or baby trout. ....
The mask mandate is reinstated starting April 30 and will continue through the end of the school year. Ben Fisher, director of communications, said six positive cases have been reported, less than 1 percent of the 1,700-student district. However, the cases in at least four of the school buildings resulted in 95 quarantines. We made a decision based on the data we had at the time, Fisher said. We had not had a case since early February. Fisher said 5.3 percent of students and staff attending school in person are quarantined because of the recent cases. At one point, the quarantine level jumped as high as 162 during the school year. ....
