Sky News host Alan Jones says the Morrison government needs to “explain the virtues of nuclear energy” to the public and in doing so make it an election issue.
Nuclear energy has been prohibited in Australia since 1998, but five Nationals Senators last week pushed to add an amendment to the Clean Energy Finance Corporation legislation to set aside funds for nuclear projects.
It comes as a poll of 71 Coalition backbenchers conducted by The Australian found 48 members believed the prohibition on nuclear power should be lifted.
Mr Jones said the government needs to explain how Australia is the third largest uranium producer in the world and exports it to countries which then can have “cheap, clean energy”. ....

The Coalition must “force Labor to justify” the ban on nuclear power when Australia exports it across the world especially given it could drastically reduce emissions which the opposition claims “it’s so worried about,” says Peta Credlin.

Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese has gone from “each-way Albo (to) become no way Albo” as he flat out rejects coal, oil, gas and definitely nuclear power, says Resources Minister Keith Pitt.
It comes as five Nationals Senators including former ministers Bridget McKenzie and Matt Canavan will move an amendment to legislation which will allow the Clean Energy Finance Corporation to invest in nuclear generators.
