KVRR Local News There s been a run on the free pizza and scavenger hunt ornaments. April 19, 2021 A whole heck of a lot of takers, as it turns out. Conservation and outdoor recreation group River Keepers set the ornament challenge scavenger hunt from this past Saturday all the way through until May first. The best hunters were allowed to keep their ornament, and they’d get rewarded with a free large Papa John’s pizza. Whether it was the nice Saturday weather, the itch to get outdoors and stretch their legs after a long winter, or the siren song of carbs and cheese, every ornament was gone by Monday. ....
BROCKVILLE After 45 years as a public servant at the municipal, provincial and federal levels, Bob Runciman is receiving Ontario s highest honour – the Order of Ontario. Lieutenant Governor of Ontario Elizabeth Dowdeswell announced 25 appointments to the 2020 Order of Ontario on New Year s Day, including Runciman. His accomplishments include leading the revitalization of Brockville s downtown area, initiating a treatment centre for inmates with mental illness, and supporting Ontario through the SARS crisis. Today, he remains a stalwart community volunteer, said the media release from the Office of the Lieutenant Governor. When it actually happened, I got emails from friends who said congratulations! KANKAKEE â Edwin âEdâ James Mullady, 94, of Kankakee, died peacefully on Sunday (Dec. 13, 2020) after a short illness. Loving husband, father, son, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather, Ed was a kind man whose life was devoted to preserving the environment, in particular the Kankakee River. In 2009, the Bourbonnais Friendship Festival committee asked him to be the grand marshal of their grand parade. At the time, local writer Mary Ann Kirsch wrote a lovely article about Ed, and she has graciously allowed his family to include portions of it here: âSelecting Ed Mullady as the Grand Marshall for this yearâs Grand Parade was truly a simple choice. For, if there were an official River Keeper for the Kankakee, he would be the choice, hands down. It is a role heâs taken on for well over 50 years and one he will hang on to as long as he can. ....
