Bay Area Reporter :: Updated: Trans activist and AIDS survivor Felicia Elizondo dies

Felicia Flames Elizondo, a transgender woman and longtime AIDS survivor, died Saturday, May 15. She was 74.
According to friends and social media posts, Ms. Elizondo was in hospice care in San Francisco at the Veterans Administration Hospital.
Ms. Elizondo was a fixture in the San Francisco LGBTQ community for many years.
What I remember about Felicia are her performances and how giving she was of her time and energy, Luis Gutierrez-Mock, a queer trans man, told the Bay Area Reporter in a phone interview. She was always down to raise money for friends, HIV prevention, and the trans community.
Gutierrez-Mock said that he and Ms. Elizondo organized the San Francisco Trans March for many years. ....

RSVP volunteers refuse to let COVID slow them down

Staying active during winter months is usually a bit of a challenge for everyone – and that was before COVID hit. Cooler temperatures tend to make one want to stay warm, near the fireplace or under blankets, with a cup of something hot. RSVP volunteers are different though. Helping others is just in their nature. They have not let COVID or weather slow them down!
Jim and Carol O’Neill, RSVP Volunteers for 15 years, are excellent examples. In addition to a variety of volunteer opportunities she has done over those years, Carol has been a Meals on Wheels volunteer since she retired in 2007, and Jim is her navigator, reading directions as she drives. ....

PADD Office Looking For Volunteers, Council Members For Ombudsman Program

The Purchase Area Development District is looking for volunteers interested in improving the quality of life for residents of long-term care facilities.
District Long-Term Care Ombudsman Sarah Dodd said her office advocates for long-term care residents and their families, making sure their needs are met and taken care of in their facility.
She said she needs Friendly Visitor volunteers, who spend time with residents and participate in activities with them. She said she also needs Certified Ombudsmen, who would handle complaints from residents about their care.
Dodd said it is more necessary than ever to turn attention towards those living in long-term care facilities after some people have spent over a year in isolation due to COVID-19. She said it was hard to spread the word about what Ombudsmen do for residents during that time. ....
