Only A Pavement Away partners with Fred Sirieix to launch ex-offender employment campaign
Hospitality charity Only A Pavement Away (OAPA) has partnered with Fred Sirieix to launch an employment campaign aimed at helping ex-offenders into jobs within hospitality.
The ‘Sponsor a Kitchen’ campaign will sit alongside Sirieix s The Right Course charity programme, which has created prisoner-run restaurants in HMP Isis, 
As part of the initiative, OAPA is calling on employers in the industry to get involved in the programme and pledge funds to refit prison kitchens in order for the training to take place. Gaucho have already signed up to the project and will be leading the way for sponsoring a kitchen after being in partnership with OAPA since it began. ....

The successful restaurateur is about to launch his new Japanese-Mexican eatery Los Mochis in London s Notting Hill.

Markus Thesleff is a man who doesn’t shy away from a challenge. The restaurateur is probably best known for the award-winning Japanese fine-dining restaurant Okku in Dubai, not to mention the famed nightspot Pangea in downtown Manhattan. The opening of both ventures seemed to coincide with global events of huge economic magnitude that would make even the most seasoned of entrepreneurs rethink their plans. 
Not Thesleff, who signed the lease for Pangea in 2001 in the wake of 9/11 and then went on to open Okku in early 2009,  just after the global financial markets crashed. Tim Martin offloads further £50m in JDW shares

MCA​, JD Wetherspoon chairman Tim Martin has sold 4.37m of ordinary company shares – at a price of £11.50 – netting him £50m and reducing his company stake to 21.88%. 
The news comes after Martin sold £5m worth of company shares in December​, which at the time left him with a 27% stake in the business – a move which itself followed on from another £5m sale in the summer. 
The latest sale on 26 January was in response to “significant buying interest following the company placing last week”, according to the operator.  ....

City pub wins award for helping homeless | Eastern Daily Press

A Norwich pub which helped to feed the homeless during the coronavirus lockdown has won a national award.
The Garden House in the city s Pembroke Road has been awarded the British Institute of Innkeeping s (BII) Heart of the Community Award in recognition of its work supporting people during the second lockdown in November.
Jonathon Childs, operator of the pub, together with hospitality charity Only a Pavement Away (OAPA) handed out more than 3,000 meal pouches and 300 winter warmth flasks to the homeless in Norwich and Great Yarmouth.
The meal pouches, which included a variety of dishes as well as tinned food and cutlery, were split across different local initiatives including: St Martins Hostels; Norwich City Council’s Pathway Scheme; Tribal Trust Soup Kitchen in Great Yarmouth; Project Nova; Soul Church’s soup kitchen and the Red Cross. ....
