Dubai investment banking firm Shuaa Capital invested an undisclosed amount as part of a new funding round in Anghami earlier this month.
The music streaming app, which started with an investment of $200,000 from its two founders in 2012, has raised more than $40 million from investors including venture capital firm Middle East Venture Partners and Samena Capital. UAE tech start-up Zbooni raises $5m to fund expansion

Zbooni, a technology start-up in the UAE that enables small and medium-sized enterprises to process payments and grow their online presence, raised $5 million in a Series A funding round to fuel its expansion across the region.
The fundraising, which was led by an undisclosed London-based fund, will help the start-up to expand its team across the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Jordan, the company said in a statement on Tuesday.
The latest investment will be channelled to develop better products for its clients using new technology.
“Zbooni is on a mission to help provide access to digital commerce tools, ultimately supporting our merchants to start, run and grow their business,” the company’s chief executive and co-founder Ramy Assaf said. ....

Zbooni raises $5 million in Series A
UAE-based e-commerce enabler Zbooni, has raised a $5 million Series A funding round led by an undisclosed London-based fund.
Founded in 2017, Zbooni enables small merchants to easily start, run and grow their businesses online, providing them with a range of business-focused services, such as mobile invoicing and payment solutions, digital storefronts in its marketplace, data insights, automated sales tracking and invoicing. It initially started out as a chat commerce venture enabling payments via WhatsApp before launching its new e-commerce enablement services, signaling the growing demand for online selling.
Zbooni said that it had recorded a rapid acceleration in 2020, including 600 per cent in customer growth. It currently supports thousands of merchants, processing tens of millions of dirhams every month and has enabled its merchants to serve more than 150,000 customers. ....

Digital assets exchange CoinMena secures licence from Central Bank of Bahrain


The exchange is Sharia-compliant, having been certified by the Shariah Review Bureau, the company said.
It will offer the deposit, trade and withdrawal of digital assets in a users local currency and on launch will offer trading in five major cryptocurrencies Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Ripple (XRP), Litecoin (LTC) and Bitcoin Cash (BCH). It will be open to users in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
It will also provide over-the-counter services for clients looking to carry out large transactions, the company said.

UAE schools to test futuristic solutions by start-ups


Dubai: Dubai plans to pilot 11 futuristic projects at hundreds of schools after start-ups pitched their ideas, such as a private artificial intelligence (AI) maths tutor and a child-friendly social media network, to officials and investors recently.
The plans come in line with Dubai Future Foundation’s (DFF) Dubai Future Accelerators (DFA) initiative a flagship programme to position Dubai as a hub for innovation, emerging technologies and an attractive destination for start-ups and entrepreneurs.
DFF recently hosted an ‘Investor Day’ in collaboration with Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), the regulatory authority for private education in Dubai. The event witnessed seven education-technology start-ups pitch their innovative solutions for the future of education to an expert panel of investors that could potentially fund them to grow and scale further. ....
