Lightning sparks new wildfires in the Cariboo

Lightning sparks new wildfires in the Cariboo SHARE ON: Fire Information Officer Madison Smith explains where they were. “A lot of them did lie in the west regions of our fire centre, so the far West Chilcotin and then the northwest of the Quesnel region, and we did have a few we’re just picking out in the Horsefly Lake area.” One of those was out at Salt Lake, which is about 55 kilometres north of Anahim Lake. “It is currently estimated at 100 hectares in size and is out of control.  We currently have 8 personnel, one helicopter, and skimmers actioning the fire.  We do have two pieces of heavy equipment out there right now but there is more en route.”

Only Evac Alert in Quesnel Fire Centre lifted

The only evacuation alert in the Quesnel Fire Centre was lifted earlier today. Residents living in the Titetown and Nazko North areas can now take a breath. The area was initially put under the alert because of the Purdy Lake Wildfire. The Cariboo Fire Centre has also noted that the 8,000-hectare fire has not gotten bigger within the past few days. The evacuation areas in question were to the north and the east of Kluskoil Lake Provincial Park. The first alerts for the area were issued back on July 11, and the area was expanded a few days later on July 15.
